Areas of work

The themes explored through his research, curatorial practice and public talks, alongside the projects in which he has developed them.

Entangled authorship: authorship and agency in AI art

Who is the author of an artwork co-created with a generative system? This question is central to his doctoral thesis and the conference Che cos’è un autore.

Co-creation between artists and AI

Ways of working between artists and generative systems, tested in works such as And We Thought by Roberto Fassone.

Curatorship and AI

How artificial intelligence is changing curatorial practice, explored through exhibitions such as Prompting the Real and Framing Problems.

AI for museums, archives and libraries

How cultural institutions can adopt AI in an informed and responsible way: the focus of the AI Compass research.

AI, cultural cooperation and places

AI as a tool for cultural organisations and place-based regeneration, at the heart of the Rigenerativa programme.

AI education for the cultural sector

Programmes for cultural professionals and artists, including Generativa Academy and Degenerativa.

In 2026, Federico Bomba earned a PhD in Computer Science with honours from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, specialising in Human–Computer Interaction. His thesis, Agency and Authorship in AI Art, was supervised by Antonella De Angeli and Elisa Giaccardi. His research explores co-creation between artists and AI, shared authorship between people and generative systems—which he describes as entangled authorship—computational creativity, and AI education in the cultural sector.

He has held research positions at the University of Bologna and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. In 2025, he was invited to the Dagstuhl Seminar 25442, Augmenting Human Creativity with AI.
