DATAPOIESIS is a neologism coined by the artistic duo AOS, formed by Salvatore Iaconesi and Oriana Persico, to describe a process in which data give birth to something that did not exist before. Data Poietic Objects are objects (furniture, household appliances…) whose essence and nature depend on data and computation. They are not only technical artifacts, but also cultural and existential, as they dive deep into contemporary culture and human perception and understanding, creating new opportunities for social imagination.
OBIETTIVO: the first datapoietic object
OBIETTIVO, the first datapoietic object, is an artwork made and exhibited for the first time in May 2019 in Ancona, Italy, at the art+b=love(?) festival.
The work has been acquired by the permanent collection of the Farnesina and exhibited at ContemporaryArt Torino Piemonte, Quinto Ampliamento – Ivrea, Artcity – Bologna
A crucial moment of the project was the Fall School carried out Nov. 25-30 at the former Olivetti Factories in Ivrea, where an international group of researchers, designers, artists, students and professionals worked together to shape the first startup dedicated to the Datapoiesis phenomenon and its first line of objects and services.
GOAL is a light installation for public space that collects huge amounts of data from reliable sources (UN, OECD, World Bank, World Poverty Clock) on the number of people in the world who are in extreme poverty. Through AI this data is interpreted and rendered in the form of light to animate the installation. The project's pulsing red light is an alarm, keeping us awake. When the number of people in extreme poverty falls below a certain threshold, GOAL will turn off, allowing us to finally rest
