Nontourism in Bologna. Call opens for community writing on cultural resilience

Regeneration of places
April 28, 2022

By May 2, respond to the call for community writing
Greenhouses at Giardini margherita, Bologna

NONTURISMO is a way of understanding the encounter between a community and those who come from outside: nontourists seek an intimate and authentic relationship with an area, and the community that welcomes them offers them paths that are open to the deviations of the soul, designed after a journey of reconstructing their own identity.

I WANT TO PARTICIPATE TOO!

Between May and July 2022, 𝟏𝟎 selected people through the application form will become part of the community writing of the guidebook Nonturismo Bologna  – Deviazioni inedite raccontate dagli abitanti. Community drafting is a short workshop led by anthropologists Eleonora Adorni and Brenda Benaglia, and edited by writer 𝐖𝐮 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐, which aims to map out the itinerary on the resilience of culture spaces in Bologna, which will be part of the city’s non-tourist guide.

Program

The meetings of community drafting will be held at the Sound Greenhouse of the Margherita Gardens, tentatively on the days of:

  • Thursday 𝟏𝟐 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟏𝟕:𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟐𝟎:𝟎𝟎
  • Tuesday 𝟏𝟕 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟏𝟗:𝟑𝟎 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟐𝟐:𝟎𝟎
  • Wednesday 𝟏 𝐠𝐢𝐮𝐠𝐧𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟏𝟕.𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎
  • Saturday and Sunday, July 2/3 at a time to be determined

What is CULTURAL RESISTANCE?

“The places of cultural resistance are those where we live and inhabit in an alternative way to the intended destination, subverting the purpose that the architect or urban planner had envisioned for them. These places are all the more resilient the more their metamorphosis happens freely, spontaneously, without responding to public calls or following projects approved by the administration. And they are all the more cultural the more their alternative use deviates from the original one in creative, unthinkable and rebellious ways.

Here are a few examples: an industrial shed where concerts are held, a churchyard where ball games are played, a parking lot where people go dancing, a brownfield turned into a vegetable garden, a noise barrier that becomes a mural art gallery, a public park where astronomy evenings are held, a staircase used as a gathering place, a housing occupation in an office building…”
