And we thought, a new exhibit in Luxembourg

And we thought is the project born in 2022 through a collaboration between Sineglossa and visual artist Roberto Fassone. The idea was to create an artificial entity who could experience and narrate psychedelic trips. In order to do so, thousands of trip reports of magic mushrooms eaters were given to an AI, which was baptized Ai Lai, and which started to write accounts of hallucinogenic trips.

Thanks to the invitation from Nuit de La Culture, And we thought will be hosted at University of Luxembourg from 20 April to 9 May, for a new exhibition curated by Vincent Crapon.

And we thought is an artwork under the FOOD DATA DIGESTION project, a research and production process combining art and Artificial Intelligence produced and curated by Sineglossa, in collaboration with Play with Food and Alchemilla, promoted by Istituzione Bologna Musei /MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art di Bologna. The dataset used for Ai Lai’s training comes from Shroomery.org, available in Creative Commons. The project is supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo as part of the call “ART~WAVES “ART~WAVES. Per la creatività, dall’idea alla scena”.

The authors

Roberto Fassone (Savigliano, IT, 1986) lives and works in Florence. His research concerns parallel realities, the titles of things and dark forces. In recent years, he has exhibited and performed his work at Italian and international institutions, including: MAXXI L’Aquila, Ars Electronica, Vision du Rèel, Fanta-MLN, Lo schermo dell’arte, MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, Centrale Fies, Gabrovo Biennial of Humour & Satire in Art. His practice is open to collaboration: over the years he has devised projects with Led Zeppelin (LZ), Carolina Cappelli, Riccardo Banfi. He founded the publishing house Roi de Coupe.

Ai Lai (2022) is an artificial intelligence that has eaten thousands of hallucinogenic mushrooms in collaboration with Creative Technologist Andrea Zaninello. He lives and works at andwethought.it. Over the past year he has exhibited his work at Combo, at the Ars Electronica festival and at Art City Bologna 2023.

Led Zeppelin (LZ) is a collective belonging to a parallel reality. Not to be confused with the British band of the same name, they have made several psychedelic films.
