|Friday 26 September, 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Masmo Smart Mobility srl, Via Berti, Ancona
Led by Luca Sandoni

Course description

The course defines the role of media libraries as tools for the aggregation and integrated digital access to heterogeneous cultural heritage assets, both by type and institutional origin. Starting from a critical analysis of the Lodovico Media Library case study, participants will explore strategies and best practices for digitization, metadata creation, organisation, aggregation and access to the life cycle of digital objects, using shared standards and advanced technologies. Throughout the activities there will be direct interaction with the instructor, aimed at critically evaluating the adopted solutions and developing operational skills transferable to different contexts. Particular attention is devoted to the potential of platforms capable of enabling dialogue between different collections, overcoming typological barriers and offering users new, interconnected access experiences.

Learning objectives

During the course, software for digital archiving and data management will be addressed. By the end of the course participants will be able to:

• recognise the principles and fundamental logics that guide strategies for digitisation, metadata creation and management of digital cultural heritage;
• identify the basic techniques and best practices for the organisation, description and integration of various digital cultural data for the construction of interoperable digital worlds and aggregation platforms;
• identify technical and methodological solutions for the digitisation and enhancement of digital cultural heritage.
