What you find here

In a global context that increasingly recognizes the urgency of an integrated approach to sustainable development, the project is rooted in the awareness that ecological transition cannot be only technical or environmental. It must bring together social, economic, cultural, and ecological dimensions. In coastal areas, this interconnection is particularly evident: the sea is not only a natural resource, but a force that shapes identities, imaginaries, relationships, and ways of life.

Stories of the Sea places education at the heart of this process, valuing it as a tool to understand the complexity of coastal territories, strengthen the skills of the people who inhabit them, and support inclusive sustainable development pathways rooted in local stories, knowledge, and practices.

Project Objectives

Within this framework, the overall objective of the Stories of the Sea project is to develop, test, and disseminate a methodology that promotes inclusive sustainable development, with a specific focus on coastal communities and their needs, addressed through the lens of education.

Strengthening the skills of those who deliver professional training activities in vocational education and training (VET) centres, communities, non-profit associations, cultural, social, and recreational organizations, trade unions, and professional associations active in coastal areas is essential to foster civic engagement and to guide sustainable development processes capable of generating long-lasting social, economic, cultural, and environmental impacts.

Activities and Expected Results

  • Design of a competence framework integrating key European policies on sustainability and inclusion;
  • Development and testing of a training programme for educators and VET students, with a focus on coastal communities;
  • Production of a replicable methodology to support trainers in transferring knowledge and activating sustainable development processes in their local territories;
  • Enhancing the attractiveness and resilience of coastal communities, making them more sustainable places to live and work.
