From the birthplace of\u00a0Giacomo Leopardi<\/strong>\u00a0and a lecture by\u00a0Italo<\/strong>\u00a0Calvino<\/strong>, to illuminate new touching points between the eternal human need for poetry and the linguistic and combinatorial capabilities of artificial intelligences.<\/p>

CIBERNETICA E FANTASMI is the\u00a0first Italian retrospective and competition on the state of the art of poetry made\u00a0<\/strong>by<\/i>,\u00a0with<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0about<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0artificial intelligence<\/strong>. The idea that a machine could remove the human being from the\u00a0\u201cnegozi della vita<\/em>\u201d\u00a0and replace him in \u201cmaterial things\u201d<\/em>, as well as and above all in \u2018spiritual\u2019 things, is anticipated by Leopardi in 1824, in one of the lesser-known but more visionary and futuristic\u00a0Operette morali.<\/i>\u00a0Inside it, the\u00a0poet from Recanati imagines an Academy of Sillographers \u2013 sillographers were, in ancient Greece, poets of ironic and burlesque verses \u2013 which institutes a competition to award prizes for the three best inventions capable of replacing human beings. More than a century later, Italo Calvino opened up to the creative possibilities of cybernetics, at a time when human beings were beginning to understand \u201chow to disassemble and reassemble the most complicated and most unpredictable of all their machines: language<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A call for poets has been opened from 30 October to 3 December 2023 to learn, promote and support new methods of poetic production and experimentation in which artificial intelligences are part of the writing process as creative partners or co-authors, or are thematically involved in the text.<\/p>

The invitation is open to anyone, over 18 or under, whether they already have a track record in the field of poetry writing or wish to experiment with artificial intelligence collaboration for the first time.<\/p>

The jury is composed of\u00a0Roberta Iadevaia<\/b>, independent researcher and author of the essay\u00a0Per una storia della letteratura elettronica italiana<\/i>\u00a0(Mimesis Edizioni, 2021),\u00a0Luigi Socci<\/b>, artistic director of La Punta della Lingua,\u00a0Valerio Cuccaroni<\/b>, artistic director of La Punta della Lingua,\u00a0Federico Bomba\u00a0<\/b>artistic director of Sineglossa and researcher at the Human Technology Lab of the Free University of Bozen\/Bolzano, and\u00a0Fabrizio Venerandi<\/b>, writer, poet and programmer.<\/p>

The shortlist included three poems (Cosa significa \u2013 L\u2019oracolo dei mutamenti<\/i>, by Filippo Lubrano;\u00a0STANDBY ME<\/i>, by Valentina Goretti;\u00a0Gino the Visionary<\/i>, by Riccardo Socci) and awarded the poem Gino il Visionario<\/i>, by Riccardo Socci.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The exhibition includes\u00a0Tape Mark 1<\/i>,\u00a0Nanni Balestrini<\/b>\u2018s pioneering 1962 computational work,\u00a0I am code: An Artificial Intelligence Speaks<\/i>, a text in verse written by Code-davinci-002, an ancestor of ChatGpt, and read by\u00a0Werner Herzog<\/b>, the filmmaker and explorer of the unknown who, surprised by their evocative and disturbing power, said: \u201cI am the only one who should recite them\u201d. From\u00a0Fabrizio Venerandi<\/b>\u2018s poetic photostories,\u00a0Marco Giovenale<\/b>\u2018s googlism,\u00a0Francesca Gironi<\/b>\u2018s audio-poems\u00a0Persona distopica \/ persona utopica<\/i>, to\u00a0Paolo Agrati<\/b>\u2018s almost completely analogue works on the man-machine relationship. Finally, two international milestones of poetry realised with AI:\u00a01 the Road\u00a0<\/i>(2018) by\u00a0Ross Goodwin<\/b>, who, following in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac, travelled thousands of kilometres together with an AI that wrote about what it saw and heard, and\u00a0COMPLETION: Are you ready for the future?<\/i>\u00a0(2020) by award-winning poet\u00a0Sasha Stiles<\/b>, written with Technelegy, her digital alter-ego.<\/p>

The opening talk hosted an interactive live co-creation reading with ChatGPT by\u00a0Andrea Capodimonte<\/b>.<\/p>

The exhibition concludes with the 1971 science-fiction medium\u00a0Il Versificatore<\/b>\u00a0(The Versifier), based on a short story by Primo Levi, preserved in the Teche Rai, about the commercialisation of a poetry-generating machine. In a future society, the demand for poetry is high; a professional poet, burdened with a heavy workload, is considering the purchase of a \u2018versifier\u2019, a sophisticated device capable of generating verse on demand. The representative of these electronic devices explains to the poet and his secretary how the machine works, which soon begins to exhibit unusual and surprising behaviour.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
