On November 15th and 16th at the <\/span>Palazzo Poggi museum<\/span><\/a> in Bologna we are hosting <\/span>Prompting the real<\/span><\/i>, two days of exhibits and events open to the public that explore multiple practices of co-creation between artists and AI. The works on view, spanning sculpture, performance, poetry, music, dance, photography, and audiovisual media,<\/strong> reflect radically different approaches: some artists recognise AI as a co-author, while others use interaction to expose its mechanisms of power and systems of control. For machines, a \u201cprompt\u201d is a command that directs generation; in this exhibition, the perspective is reversed. Prompting the Real<\/em> becomes a creative and critical gesture through which artists question our present, and our evolving relationship with intelligent machines. The aim is not to predict what AI will be able to do, but to observe what it already does: its potential and its limits, the imaginaries it activates, the structures it reproduces, and the forms of power it conceals or unveils.<\/span><\/p>

Beside figures already established in the international scene such as <\/span>Jerry Galle<\/b> (KASK School of Arts, Ghent), present at <\/span>Ars Electronica<\/b>, <\/span>Wiels<\/b> and <\/span>Bozar<\/b>; <\/span>Roberto Pugliese<\/b>, one of the paramount italian sound designers, awarded by <\/span>Ars Electronica<\/b> and <\/span>Fundaci\u00f3n Telef\u00f3nica<\/b>; and <\/span>Damien Roach<\/b>, London artist who exhibited at the <\/span>Venice Biennale<\/b>, <\/span>Tate Modern<\/b> and <\/span>Swiss Institute<\/b> of New York, the exhibition unites a new generation of artists and researchers experimenting with hybrid languages between art and science.<\/span><\/p>

Among them <\/span>Sarah Ciston<\/b>, winner of the <\/span>S+T+ARTS Grand Prize 2025<\/b> di Ars Electronica and author for <\/span>MIT Press<\/b>; <\/span>Alexey Yurenev<\/b>, professor at <\/span>Columbia University<\/b> and author of <\/span>Seeing Against Seeing<\/span><\/i> (2025); <\/span>Michele Cremaschi<\/b>, artist in man-machine interaction with works presented at <\/span>Ars Electronica<\/b>, <\/span>CHI<\/b> and <\/span>DIS<\/b>; and <\/span>Silvia Galletti<\/b>, choreographer and dancer active between the <\/span>MilanOltre Festival<\/b>, <\/span>Festival Danza Estate<\/b> and <\/span>IN\\VISIBLE Cities<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

Closing off the journey, <\/span>Francesco Frisari<\/b>, author of the film <\/span>The Prompt<\/span><\/i> (produced with <\/span>AIxIA<\/b> and <\/span>Rai Cinema<\/b>) and the documentary <\/span>Quale Allegria<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>Fantomatica<\/span><\/i>, 2025); and the <\/span>Katz\u2013Rich\u2013Morgenthau<\/b> collective, authors of the generative poem <\/span>I Am Code<\/span><\/i>, interpreted by <\/span>Werner Herzog<\/b>, Golden Lion to the Carrier of the Venice Biennale 2025.<\/span><\/p>

Prompting the real<\/span><\/i> is a project by the University of Bologna – <\/span>Department of Computer Science, Science and Engineering (DISI)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>University Museum Network<\/span><\/a>; curated by <\/span>Sineglossa<\/span>, in collaboration with <\/span>High-Performance Computing, Big Data e Quantum Computing Research Centre (ICSC)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN)<\/span><\/a>, with the patronage of European Union \u2013 NextGenerationEU | Ministry of University and Research | Italia Domani | <\/span>FAIR \u2013 Future Artificial Intelligence Research.<\/span><\/a><\/p>

The event is part of <\/span>The Next Real<\/span><\/a>, the festival on arts, IA and society promoted by Sineglossa through exhibitions, workshops, talks and performances scattered through the city of Bologna.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Drawing on research findings from the FAIR-PNRR project on human creativity in immersive, multisensory environments, we present a talk and musical performance exploring the interaction between musicians, AI systems, and virtual reality technologies. The performance features an interaction between an AI system and two seasoned jazz improvisers. With researcher Aldo Gangemi, researchers Chiara Lucifora and Claudia Scorolli, and musicians Canio Coscia (sax), Francesco Milone (sax), and Sergio Mariotti (double bass).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The works function as experiential devices, sensory and cognitive totems that translate abstract concepts into tangible forms. In Damien Roach<\/a>\u2019s \u2018Cloud Gazing\u2019, object recognition algorithms enter cognitive overdrive while attempting to make sense of evolving clouds, \u2018seeing things\u2019 invisible to the human eye. What hidden potentials can be excavated by hacking and rewiring the computational systems that form and mould our reality, subverting their intended use, embedded politics, and power structures?<\/span>Through an installation conceived specifically for the exhibition, <\/span>Water Clocks<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Roberto Pugliese<\/span><\/a> transforms climate data into sound, making the slow advance of the global environmental crisis audible. With <\/span>Macchine per dialoghi disobbedienti<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Michele Cremaschi<\/span><\/a> stages the relationship between human thought and machine-generated language through hybrid analogue-digital interfaces that restore body and friction to computational processes. On a performative level, <\/span>Dear Chatbot<\/span><\/i> by Silvia Galletti explores the choreographic potential of language models, while <\/span>AI War Cloud Database<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Sarah Ciston<\/span><\/a> uncovers the unsettling ties between military infrastructures and everyday technologies. <\/span>I Am Code<\/span><\/i> explores the boundaries of untamed generative language and synthetic consciousness, themes that resonate dystopically in <\/span>The Prompt<\/span><\/i>, a short film by<\/span> Francesco Frisari<\/span><\/a>. The works of <\/span>Jerry Galle<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>AI Messages and Deeptime<\/span><\/i>, construct imaginary archives and future relics in a form of archaeological science fiction, while <\/span>Silent Hero<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Alexey Yurenev<\/span><\/a> uses artificial intelligence as a tool to probe fragmented family memories and to dismantle the heroic rhetoric of war.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
