Taking inspiration from the &#8220;Sarajevo Survival Guide&#8221; produced by a collective of artists in 1992 during the siege of the city and the &#8220;<\/span><a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\" href=\"https:\/\/sineglossa.it\/en\/projects\/nontourism\/\">Nonturismo<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d methodology for art-based community engagement in rural and fragile areas, for two years (January 2025 \u2013 December 2026) the project engages local communities, Ukrainian at-risk and international artists in a collective drafting process. The<strong> co-created result will be a provocative artistic guidebook of the Ukrainian district of Bakota<\/strong>, that helps the international community to navigate the complexity of the present times of war in Ukraine. The guide will be edited by a professional publisher and will be distributed throughout Europe in festivals and book fairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8197545 elementor-widget__width-auto elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"8197545\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"70\" height=\"25\" src=\"https:\/\/sineglossa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Barretta-gialla.svg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-image-16904\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-80619bf elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"80619bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Open Call for Artists<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c12ebbb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c12ebbb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA discovery guide for Ukraine\u201d call for artists is open to <\/span><b>individual artists working with any media <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and who are<\/span><b> citizens or permanent residents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of all <\/span><b>EU eligible countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/docs\/2021-2027\/crea\/guidance\/list-3rd-country-participation_crea_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">list<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) including <\/span><b>Ukraine. <\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants are called to design <\/span><b>unconventional tours <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to discover the Ukrainian region of Bakota, in Western Ukraine, by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">involving the inhabitants in a process of <\/span><b>recovering memories of the past<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, raising <\/span><b>awareness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on opportunities and problems of the <\/span><b>present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>foreseeing possible future scenarios<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Artists will be hosted for a <\/span><b>t<\/b><b>w<\/b><b>o-week art residency at Bakota Hub<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a cultural centre in Horaivka, Khmelnytskyi Oblast (Southwestern of Ukraine), created on the basis of a former abandoned school and used in the two past years as a shelter for internally displaced people.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The tours will be <\/span><b>printed and published in an international guidebook<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dedicated to non-tourists, those who do not travel to collect postcards but to discover the authentic spirit of a territory.<\/span><\/p><p>The publication will be <strong>designed in the style of a traditional travel guide<\/strong> with a mixture of <strong>essays<\/strong>, <strong>images<\/strong> and <strong>image essays<\/strong>. The texts will be in Ukrainian and English. The art direction and design of the publication will be overseen by a graphic design studio or individual designer. In both cases, the origin of the artist can be proven either by the nationality or, for permanent residents, by a valid permit of residency.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each artist is responsible for their own VISA, if requested by the origin country.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have a <strong>working knowledge of English<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Discovery Guide consortium partners, their affiliates, employees or permanent collaborators are not eligible for funding within this open call.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Special attention will be given to <strong>artists with previous experience in collaborating with communities<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-738c05b elementor-widget__width-auto elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"738c05b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"70\" height=\"25\" src=\"https:\/\/sineglossa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Barretta-gialla.svg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-image-16904\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bf95af7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bf95af7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The art residency at Bakota Hub, in Ukraine<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df2eedc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"df2eedc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The selected artists will have the opportunity to be hosted in <strong>Bakota Hub<\/strong>, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <strong>cultural center<\/strong> in<\/span> Bakota district, in the Khmelnytsky region<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><b>Southwestern Ukraine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), near the border with <strong>Moldova<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Created as a space for hosting art residencies in <\/span><b>2021 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the organizers of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/partner\/respublica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respublica music and street art festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the basis of a former abandoned school, in <\/span><b>2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the artistic activities have been temporarily suspended and the hub turned into a <\/span><b>shelter for internally displaced people (IDPs)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for 1.5 years. Today in this space ten <\/span><b>murals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, numerous <\/span><b>artworks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a <\/span><b>local museum <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have been created, and the village has become a vibrant cultural hub. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab6eff8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-video\" data-id=\"ab6eff8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;youtube_url&quot;:&quot;https:\\\/\\\/www.youtube.com\\\/watch?v=zHqUogxcGKc&quot;,&quot;video_type&quot;:&quot;youtube&quot;,&quot;controls&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"video.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-wrapper elementor-open-inline\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-video\"><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb8d365 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fb8d365\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/territory.ngo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NGO Territory<\/a> runs various <strong>cultural, artistic and educational projects<\/strong>, and the selected artists will have the opportunity to <strong>interact with local at-risk and international artists, local communities<\/strong> such as youth, veterans and their families, internally displaced people, but also cyclists, yoga practitioners, and travelers that the hub hosts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Region where Bakota Hub is located is<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <strong>most popular tourist destination in Ukraine<\/strong> according to Google searches. O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ver the past three years, the <\/span><b>number of tourists visiting the region has tripled<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, attracting young people and families who have already purchased homes and moved to the village <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; but there&#8217;s not a town called Bakota on the map.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <strong>history<\/strong> of Bakota ended in 1981, when during the construction of the Novodnistrovska hydroelectric power station by the Soviet authorities, the town was completely flooded with water, as were dozens of neighboring towns and villages with a rich historical and cultural heritage. Now the entire Bakota is under water, and the towns and villages around the Bakota Bay on the high bank of the Dniester Reservoir are conventionally named after it.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As after the <strong>flood in the 1980s, Ukraine\u2019s heritage is under attack <\/strong>within the framework of the <strong>Russian\u2019s aggression<\/strong>, and people are again forced to move. At the same time, these processes too often include the <strong>inhabitants<\/strong> of the place in a <strong>marginal way,<\/strong> applying<strong> top-down models<\/strong> that do not dialogue with the territory and citizens. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this open call we would like to invert this process. That&#8217;s why this open call is looking for artists capable of dialoguing with local communities and building with them valuable territorial narratives. Artists who apply for this open call are asked to produce content for an \u201cunconventional\u201d touristic guidebook that subverts the classic category of tourist book. The content requested to the applicants is \u201cnon-touristic\u201d tour that can be geographical, thematic, speculative, but it must address <\/span><b>a relevant issue for navigating the present situation in Ukraine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The open call asks for an itinerary conceived in <\/span><b>a format which can be included in a printed guidebook. <\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a source of inspiration artists can explore the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/world-processor.com\/fama\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sarajevo Survival Guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Nonturismo guidebook (<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1e4CuXkzSXf7ZrFfdAkFXX2EcEMn_pAgJ\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">excerpt<\/a>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To acquire the skills selected artists need for developing the proposed \u201cnon-touristic\u201d tour, the call will offer them a<\/span><b> co-design lab<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a<\/span><b> three-days training activity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Warsaw, hosted by the project partner \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ziemniakii.eu\/\">Fundacja Ziemniaki i<\/a> (PL) and run by the project coordinator Sineglossa (IT).
