Among tourist destinations, coastal areas are those ones preferred by tourists, and the <strong>Mediterranean region is the most important tourist destination<\/strong> in the world: according to estimates by the World Tourism Organisation, it accounts for one third of the total tourism revenues.<\/span><\/p><p>But <strong>what does this mean<\/strong> for our coastlines, and beaches, and people who are living there?<\/p><p>Seaside towns are struggling with a lot of difficulties connected to <strong>overtourism<\/strong>, such as seasonality of employment, worsening quality of local communities life, <strong>gentrification<\/strong>, land consumption caused by the development of an unique tourism model. In this situation, <strong>climate change<\/strong> that affects coastal areas &#8211; sand erosion, the loss of coral reefs, a plunge in marine life, algae blooms, and beached animals &#8211; amplifies the <strong>environmental impacts<\/strong> of overtourism. Although climate change is a primary cause, overtourism is no friend to the fragile ecosystem either and the convergence of two phenomena has enhanced the complexities of seeking solutions.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3a761a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3a761a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Local communities and art to tackle overtourism and voluntourism<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-62033c5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"62033c5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sineglossa has a long experience on how activities, projects, and methodologies can promote <strong>regeneration of key sites<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/sineglossa.it\/en\/project\/nonturism\/\">Nontourism<\/a> is our best practice on requalification of so called marginal areas: its innovative element is the <strong>involvement of local communities<\/strong> through <strong>artistic outputs<\/strong> and the production of a &#8220;nontouristic guide&#8221; <strong>written by inhabitants<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Starting from this know how, what we are going to do through the Bluetour upcoming project is collaborating with other local organizations &#8211; like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.design4peace.org\/?fbclid=IwAR34KfH4CCfFdNvqoIgPHf6Cdmw9HXkUG76YtSskk3y4j6MN0Ka8VrQpv6U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LATRA Innovation Lab<\/a> (Lesvos) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cm-faro.pt\/pt\/menu\/600\/capital-of-the-algarve.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Municipality of Faro<\/a> (Portugal) &#8211;<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to design a <\/span><b>new methodology specifically addressed to coastal areas. <\/b><\/p><p>F<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aro, Ancona, Lesvos, are territories undergoing social, environmental and urbanistic transformations, due to overtourism and voluntourism. The goal of Bluetour is to help these places redefine their identity by involving the inhabitants in a process of recovering of memories of the past, raising of awareness on opportunities and problems of the present, foreseeing of possible future scenarios. Like a sort of &#8220;post-Anthropocene&#8221; approach. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The final output of the multiple Bluetour activities will be implemented are community based artworks dedicated to experiencing the blue heritage both by local community and non-tourists, those who do not travel to collect postcards but to discover the authentic spirit of a territory. To contribute to the environmental protection and cultural tourism development of coastal areas, Blue Tour will act on two interconnected fronts: <strong>enabling artists and cultural professionals to engage local communities in a participatory process<\/strong> and <strong>producing, collectively, new narratives<\/strong> of each place involved by the consortium (Ancona, Faro, Lesvos).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7e8a864 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7e8a864\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Bluetour project, what we&#8217;ll do<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cde8c12 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cde8c12\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To achieve both goals of training of cultural workers and the involvement of local communities, the project will organise:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8c295a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8c295a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>three local and one transnational <strong>focus group to codesign Bluetour methodology, <\/strong>a resource that will be used in a <strong>capacity building activity <\/strong>in Ancona <strong>for training artists and cultural practitioners<\/strong> coming from Ancona, Faro, Lesvos<\/li><li>an <strong>open call<\/strong> at national level for selecting three main <strong>artists\u00a0<\/strong>that will co-create community based artworks with local people to promote new visions of coastal areas towards slow tourists<\/li><li><strong>transnational artistic residencies<\/strong> where three artists meeting local communities and sharing artistic outputs<\/li><li>a national meeting to <strong>share the Bluetour methodology with creative cultural sector<\/strong><\/li><li>three national<strong> training sessions<\/strong> with a peer to peer training designed by Sineglossa for 15 artists<\/li><li>a <strong>final international conference<\/strong> to spread Bluetour results and methodology<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-769dc82 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"769dc82\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>Bluetour project, who we are<\/strong><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b03aa42 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b03aa42\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><b>Blue Tour<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a project led by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sineglossa.it\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sineglossa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in collaboration with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.design4peace.org\/?fbclid=IwAR3mhxHiJauDlPqC6unbI1YGm8qpqdjb_QTrQs5CxAkLH8L9hd-I-mWx1D8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latra innovation Lab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Greece), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cm-faro.pt\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Municipio de Faro<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Portugal), in association with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iliaktida-amea.gr\/en\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iliaktida<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Greece), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualg.pt\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universidade do Algarve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Portugal), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turismodoalgarve.pt\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regi\u00e3o de Turismo do Algarve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Portugal).
